I created this large self portrait to convey the face we show to the world and the suppression of huge emotion, and unfulfilled hopes we keep bottled under the surface, struggling to break free. The face is painted realistically utilizing gradient tones of grey, while the busy background uses geometric splashes of brighter blues and streaks of green. I wanted the painting to contrast realism verse more abstract and conceptual. The use of thick texture is created with acrylic medium and palette knife
